Make a recycled bird feeder

Cut small holes in the sides of a plastic bottle, and another in the base for drainage. Carefully make 2 holes opposite each other near the bottom and push a pencil or dowel through. Finally, make another set of holes near the top and thread string though to hang.

Butterfly friendly plants

Many plants are not suitable for butterflies- they don't produce enough nectar for them. Here's a list of the best plants for attracting butterflies.

  • Lavender
  • Red Valerian
  • Sedum
  • Snapdragon
  • Aster

What can I feed wildlife?

Garden birds like a wide variety of foods, including seeds, nuts, cheese, lard, and mealworms.

Badgers, foxes and hedgehogs can safely eat dog food.

Many animals would also appreciate a bowl of fresh water.

Make a hedgehog hideout

A large polystyrene or cardboard box can make the perfect home for a hedgehog - simply cut a entrance and some ventilation holes. A pipe or leftover pieces of the box can be used as an entrance tunnel.

You can fill the box with straw or dead leaves to provide a cozy nest.
